If you do not know where the system properties box is in Windows Vista, this article is for you. The system Properties box contains system settings that you can change and customize to your needs. For example you can change the computer name, device manager, remote desktop settings, and more. In fact if you are wondering how big your hard drive is or how much ram you have installed, you should visit the System Properties box.

  • Go to the start menu at the bottom of the screen. See below.
  • Choose Control panel from the right menu.

  • When the control panel opens, double click on the system icon.
  • See the screenshot below. I pressed on Classic view so I could see all the icons.

  • The first part of the system properties box will open. Here you can see some details of your computer. For example it shows what processor and how much memory your computer has. See screenshot below.
  • Now press on the Advanced system settings link in the left sidebar. This will bring up the true system properties box like the one we used to see in Windows XP.

Add a Network Printer to Windows Vista or Windows XP

Now days the average household has more than one computer and share available resources over a home network. No-ones wants their house cluttered up with unnecessary office equipment, and this is exactly the reason why we need to use a network printer. For example if you have three computers on your home network you would only need one printer for them all. Windows XP, Vista, and now windows seven, allow you to use computer hardware that is connected to another computer on your Network. the following article shows you how to how to add a Network Printer. This is referring to a normal printer that is not network enabled. To see how to connect a network printer or a wireless network printer please see more information about how to add network printing.

What do you need to add a network printer?

  1. A network printer can be a printer that is already installed on one computer in your home or office network. It does not have to be anything special.
  2. You need to know the actual computer name that the printer is installed on. How to find the Computer Name?
  3. Printer Sharing has to be enabled. (Go to Control Panel>Printers Settings Icon>right click on the printer icon and choose sharing. Also create a simple name for your printer here.)
  4. The share name of you shared printer. It usually is the brand of the printer which could be cannon bj3000, however I like to rename it just printer.
Now days a printer will come with wireless networking capabilities or at the very least an Ethernet port to easily connect to your home network. This tutorial is for a printer without any of these options available.

How to add a network printer onto your home network:

  1. Go to the control panel which can be found by clicking the start button.
  2. In the left bar click on switch to classic view.
  3. Then click on the Printer and Faxes Icon.
  4. Choose to Add Printer in the left sidebar.
  5. A dialog box will appear. You can choose to add a network Printer. Then ask the computer to find it. If it does find it your done.
  6. When the computer does not find your network printer manually type it in yourself.
7- I have written serverprinter$ then I pressed Next. Server is the name of the computer that has the printer installed on it, and Printer$ is the name I gave my printer when I enabled printer sharing.

How to find a folder or file path and copy it in Windows Vista

What is a path to a file or folder?
A path to a file or folder is like an address of where it is stored on your computer. The path is made up of folders where the actual file is stored. Some file paths are simple, and others are drastically long and confusing. For example the path to the picture folder is C:Documents and SettingsmitzMy DocumentsMy Pictures and this is a simple one.
Finding the path to a file or folder in Windows Vista is not as easy as in Windows XP. In Windows Vista the file paths are hidden or shortened as you can see in the screenshot below.
Why would you need to know the path to a folder or file?
Sooner or later you will need to know where a particular file is kept on your computer. You might want to copy a file to transfer it to another computer but in order for the file to work, it needs to be placed in the same area. Therefore you will need the path to where it was kept. For example I wanted to transfer a Windows movie maker unfinished project to finish on another computer. This seemed like a difficult one but it wasn’t. I just need the files I was working with to be placed in the exact same place on the other computer. In this case I needed the project file, the video footage, and the music files to be placed as they were on the other computer. Then I opened Windows movie maker and started to edit the movie, no problems.
How to find a folder or file path and copy it in Vista?
  • Go to the start menu.
  • Choose to open computer. (used to be my computer)
  • Then in the top address bar right click your mouse in the space and the menu seen below will appear.
  • Choose to Edit address.
  • This will convert the address to a proper folder or file path, depending on what you have clicked on.
  • Now you can select the file or folder path name by making it blue and then right click on it.
  • Now you can choose copy from the menu. Shown below in the screenshot.
Here is a short video on how to find a file or folder path in Windows Vista.

How much is 1 byte, kilobyte, megabyte, gigabyte, etc.?

Question

How much is 1 byte, kilobyte, megabyte, gigabyte, etc.?

Answer

Below is a listing of each of the commonly accepted disk drive space values. It is important to realize that not all manufacturers and developers use these values. For example, a manufacturer may consider a gigabyte as 1,000,000,000 and not 1,073,741,824 bytes, we've listed the commonly accepted values in their binary base 2 values.

Note: All values expressed below are whole numbers. This means that a GB may show that it can only contain one 650MB CD but in reality 1GB could hold 1.5753... of a 650MB CD. Since we've created this document to illustrate how much each value can contain in whole, no decimal values are shown. In other words you can only fit one complete 650MB CD on a 1GB drive since two 650MB complete discs would exceed 1GB.
Tip: With the exception of bit and a nibble, all values explained below are in bytes and not bits since this document relates to computer storage capacity. For example, a Kilobyte (KB) is different than a Kilobit (Kb). When referring to storage, bytes are used, when referring to transmission speeds bits are used.
Bit
A bit is a value of either a 0 or 1.
Nibble
A Nibble is 4 bits.
Byte
A Byte is 8 bits.

What jobs are available in the computer industry?

Question

What jobs are available in the computer industry?

Answer

Notice: Computer Hope is not hiring for any of these positions. When jobs are made available they will be posted on our hiring page.
Below is short listing of different computer related jobs in the industry. This list was created for users who enjoy computers but are uncertain about what field to enter. In the below list we have described each of the jobs, the requirements, and recommendations what to do if you're interpreted in the job.

If you're looking for the average pay or the highest paying jobs in the computer industry, this document does not contain that information because of the wide variety of salaries depending on the company and its location. However, it's safe to assume that with the increased difficulty and experience required for a job, the higher you'd get paid. If you're looking for a pay range, refer to your your local listings (newspaper), or job listings for pay grades.
If you're looking for your first job in the computer industry or just want to get your foot in the door, we suggest looking at Data Entry, Sales, Quality Assurance (QA), or Technical Support jobs. The qualifications and requirements for these jobs vary, so it's best to refer to your local listings (newspaper), or job listing for available positions and the requirements.
